Terms of Service
1. What JurisChain is — and is not
JurisChain provides technology infrastructure for cryptographic proof and verification: tools that compute a SHA-256 fingerprint of a file in your browser, generate proof files and certificates, anchor fingerprints to the Bitcoin blockchain via the OpenTimestamps standard, and verify files against sealed records.
JurisChain is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice or reserved legal services, and is not a notary public or a substitute for one. Cryptographic sealing evidences the integrity and existence of a file; it does not by itself determine the legal validity, enforceability or authenticity of any document, and it does not make an electronic will valid (electronic wills are not currently valid in England & Wales). You are responsible for obtaining your own legal advice.
2. The service, free tier and pilot status
The service is currently in a pilot phase. The free tier (including blockchain anchoring) is provided on a reasonable-use basis with technical rate limits and may be changed, limited or withdrawn at any time. Paid plans are onboarded individually under separate written terms which, once agreed, prevail over these terms in case of conflict.
3. Your responsibilities
- Keep your original files and downloaded proof files (.json / .ots) safe — without the original file, a fingerprint cannot prove anything, and we do not store your documents or (beyond processing) your fingerprints.
- Do not use the service for unlawful purposes, to misrepresent the legal effect of a proof, or to attempt to overload, scrape or abuse the service or its anchoring endpoint.
- You confirm you are entitled to process any file you seal.
4. Anchoring and third-party infrastructure
Anchoring uses public OpenTimestamps calendar servers and the Bitcoin network, which are independent, third-party infrastructure we do not control. Confirmation times are not guaranteed; pending proofs typically upgrade once included in the Bitcoin blockchain. Anchored fingerprints are public and permanent by design.
5. Availability and warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability. Verification of proofs remains possible independently of JurisChain via open standards (SHA-256, OpenTimestamps).
6. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (including for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence). Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss arising from reliance on a proof in legal proceedings; and our total aggregate liability arising from the free service shall not exceed £100, or, for paid plans, the fees paid in the 12 months preceding the claim.
7. Intellectual property
The site, its branding and software are owned by JURISCHAIN LIMITED. "Jurischain" is a registered UK trade mark (UK00004053294). Proof files and certificates generated for your records are yours to use and share. The OpenTimestamps standard is open-source and belongs to its respective contributors.
8. Changes, law and disputes
We may update these terms by posting a revised version with a new date. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
